Sunday, August 30, 2009.runNUS 09'

Today was runNUS 09!! Just ended and still raining cats and meows. I have mixed feelings about the race in general, will share them here.

Woke up early this morning to pick up eric to go to NUS. Upon reaching there,we had to queue to register for our tags. My wave was supposed to start at 7.30am, but because of the slow registration process, I ended up starting at 8.00am. It was a messy start, due to confusing instructions and dunno why suddenly got 4 or 5 waves. But nevertheless, this type must just anyhow start at the front, otherwise ended up getting blocked by human traffic. And the starting upslope wasn't exactly the easiest of starts either.

Established myself in 2nd position with the 1st just about 5m infront of me. Got one part there wasnt any marshallers, in the end we detoured for nothing. Only we 2 coz I think the marshallers then went closer the the route to guide the 3rd onwards, as he was quite far away from me. Basically the route was a pretty challenging one, especially the upslope all the way to kent ridge park. It was like run 50m, see one uturn up, then run 50m and then uturn up again for about 1km. All the while going upslope. Damn xiong. Considering the fact that I didn train since AHM and the only hill trainings I ever did was like a year ago? with 3DIV at bedok reservoir hahhaha. owned. somemore slqx say the slope is easier compared to MF. omg slqx is a monster!!! ahhhh and just when I exited Kent Ridge park,i noticed overcast sky looming overhead. Was wondering if it will rain..

Anyway managed to hold on to 2nd till when we re-entered NUS via NUH. The stretch there was entirely marshall-less and I was wondering if I was running in the correct direction or not. So I slowed down and look everywhere but the back. Didn't know while I was doing that for about 800m, the 3rd runner actually caught up to me and I was like stunned. So I just paced him to finish. I wanted to sprint challenge him for the finish and I know I could have won, but as per AHM, a cramp slightly started on my right leg and I stopped the sprint straightaway with the guy sprinting to the finish line. I ended up in 3rd place which was quite surprising for me since I never run for 2weeks. Finished with a timing of 45min52seconds, 4 seconds after the 2nd guy. Ting Fu from RLF finished 47min+ i think.

About 15 mins after I finished, it rained like crazy. Luckily we were all in the tent wahahha while watching the rest getting soaked!! LOL. some of them actually stayed in the rain to cool down.. Then the MC said that the rest of the categories were cancelled. I can imagine the disappointment of the runners who were affected. Come so far, with all the running gear liao then rain and cancelled. Madness. and the worst as I was telling sarah was that theres NO PRIZE PRESENTATION. WTHHHHHH... damn.. Ok la last year 2nd so not so bad after all..

So I'm back at home in my recovery tights. sarah will be ending work soon! haha gonna bring her to NTU again soon!! :)
